Caribbean Safe School Initiative (CSSI) Thematic Case View
The Caribbean Safe School Initiative (CSSI) is the main framework to advance school safety in the Caribbean; it is the Caribbean contribution to the ‘Worldwide-Initiative on Safe Schools (WISS)’ and a partnership framework for advancing safe school implementation at the national level among Caribbean countries.
CSSI now has a stronger emphasis on pandemics, the systemic nature of risk, increasing climate concerns, the specific situation of the small island developing states, as well as on multi-stakeholder participation and the role of the youth. The CSSI Roadmap guides the efforts by enabling systems to support safe schools, and focuses on three priority areas of: 1) safe learning environment; 2) school disaster management, and; 3) disaster risk reduction (DRR) in education curricula.
