Eight years after the adoption of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), the international community convened to assess progress on its implementation.

The High-Level Meeting of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on the Midterm Review of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 concluded on Friday.

'Early Warnings for All - Closing the gap and scaling up good practices', a Risk Reduction Hub side event at the Midterm Review of the Sendai Framework, explored how the world can close the gap and scale up implementation of early warning systems.

Delegates convened at UN Headquarters in New York City on Thursday to begin the High-Level Meeting of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on the Midterm Review of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) 2015-2030.

On Wednesday, governments and non-state actors convened in the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Hub, a day-long series of discussions on priority issues. Participants attended 12 events, many of which were standing-room only.

Next week, on the 18-19 May, 187 countries are expected to gather in New York to discuss the first half of the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015- 2030).
